The Shoes The Misfits line of shoes includes: high tops, low tops, socks, slippers, baby shoes for both men, women, boy, girls and infants. Most of the shoes are based off past and current skateboarding shoe designs. A lot of the shoes are made from canvas like old Converse Chuck Taylors or Vans skate shoes. One model in particular "Misfits Skate Shoe" is based off current skateboarding shoe design. A large portion of the Misfits line contains women and girls shoes. Numerous versions, and color schemes of canvas slip-ons are available, as well as canvas knee high tops. The one model that breaks this common style is the "Vampira Wedge" which is a pump style woman's shoe. Early Roots in Skateboarding Punk rock music and skateboarding developed hand in hand. The Misfits were a band that was right in the middle of this evolving culture. Needless to say thousands of skateboarders were Misfits fans in the early 1980s. Even in skateboard videos of the 1990s, several videos parts featured Misfit songs. Zero Skateboards seems to embrace the Misfits theme more than another other skateboard company. Who were the Misfits? They came from a small town called Lodi in New Jersey (not Lodi, California). The band was started by Glen Danzig and Jerry Only in 1977. The Misfits were a punk band inspired by horror movies which led to the birth of the "horror punk" genre. This love of b-horror-movies led to the classic Misfits image and iconography of the "fiend skull" logo. Glen Danzig also had a band in the 1980s called "Danzig". One of the most important things to learn from the Misfits is how to structure a band properly. Like most eager young musicians, they tore into making songs without considering the future legal ramifications of being a band and more importantly - a business. What will you do if your band one day becomes popular years after you break up and one member starts to get royalties and you don't? That is why it is important to structure your band to treat each member fair and equally. |
